Types of Music Video

A narrative based music video conventionally tells a story within a music video, in which usually relates to the lyrics or meaning to the song. This technique is used to engage with the audience. Narrative based music videos applies to Aristotle's theory of how a story should have a beginning, middle and end.
In contrast other videos which are used are performance; this entails clips or the artist or band performing, whether it be singing, dancing or playing on instruments. A strong example of a performance based music video is Michael Jacksons music video of Rock with you. The artist or band can either be performing to a camera or an audience, this is popular within the genre of Rock music videos.
Concept based music videos tend to have no storyline, this is also known as a disjuncture video, the videos are usually random and no way in which relate to the lyrics or meaning of the song. The video is obscure and unusual, this content creates an attraction to the audience as it draws them in.
